Checklists

To help you through the process of purchasing and building your new home, you may want to consider the following:
Set a budget
It is a good idea to know your financial limitations and determine how much you want to invest in your new home. Staikos Homes offers a high quality product with no need to upgrade beyond the purchase price, however many buyers decide to add extra features which may increase their costs.
Choose a home that is right for you and your family
Decide what type of home best suits your needs. A young growing family may want to consider a slightly larger home or one of our two storey models with lots of space to grow. A couple looking to retire may find one of our smaller bungalows suits them, but may want to modify the layout to suit their particular needs. Staikos Homes can offer many design options, once you identify your priorities.
Decide on your timeline
Knowing when you actually need to move into your new home may play a part in your purchase. Quicker closing dates may narrow your selection.
Choose your brick and shingles
A drive around the neighbourhood will help you choose the way you want your home to look. Take note of street addresses of homes that you have seen and the particular features you like. If the home that you purchase is not constructed yet, we can incorporate those styles or colors into the design of your home.
Check your plans
Before construction of your home begins, check your plans carefully. Minor changes can be made to your home prior to, or at the time of construction, at little or no cost. However, once construction is underway, changes may not be possible and will likely be expensive.
Plan your layout
It may seem too early for this, but there will be decisions to be made regarding the placement of electrical outlets, television and telephone jacks, and light fixtures, that will depend on your layout.
Decide your style of decorating
A large part of designing your kitchen and choosing all of your finishing selections will depend on your particular style and tastes. If you prefer a clean, contemporary-looking home, it may affect your choice of cabinets and flooring. Looking through magazines often helps to visualize a look.
Choose your appliances
One of the first things you will do once you purchase your new home will be to design your kitchen. Many new homebuyers choose to purchase new appliances for their Staikos home. This involves deciding upon the style and type of your appliances. Because these decisions may affect your kitchen layout, the electrician will need to know to ensure the cabinets and appropriate outlets will work with the layout.
Make your selections
You will need to make an appointment to finalize your selections. If there is a particular style you have in mind, it is a good idea to bring a photo with you to provide us with a visual. Again, please ensure you bring any information on your appliances with you to this appointment, as it will affect your layout. Similarly, if there are specific pieces of furniture you are trying to incorporate into your design, it is best to bring a sample with you.
Make a list of the type and style of all light fixtures needed
After meeting with the electrician (if your home has not been pre-wired), make a list of your light fixtures and plan on purchasing them as soon as possible. Some fixtures may be delayed by ordering times, and you will want to have them all when we require them. This is usually shortly after your home has been painted. Installing missing or back-ordered lights will likely incur additional charges.
Utility company contacts
A list of utility companies will be available for your reference to set up your new accounts.
